I'm afraid my comment was taken out of context from that interview. What I said was that access to traditional foods is challenging for many First Nations, especially those who live in urban environments. The knowledge around harvesting traditional food has been impacted by residential school experience for many. And there are First Nations cultures who do have a wide variety of wild fruits and vegetables (carbohydrates), and ancient grains such as quinoa, in the traditional diet system, for example the "Three Sisters" including beans, corn and squash which are grown together in order to increase nutritional content of those foods. There were numerous species of foods such as corn used prior to European contact. It is erroneous to attach a single diet system to all Indigenous populations in North America.

An Alternative to Capitalism (since we cannot legislate morality)

Several decades ago, Margaret Thatcher claimed: \"There is no alternative\". She was referring to capitalism. Today, this negative attitude still persists.

I would like to offer an alternative to capitalism for the American people to consider. Please click on the following link. It will take you to my essay titled: \"Home of the Brave?\" which was published by the Athenaeum Library of Philosophy:

I got the same comment on my blog when I posted about carrageenan, so I did a little looking and found this posted on practically every blog that mentions carrageenan. I did discover that one of the people posting (Debbie Young) works for a company called Ingredient Solutions, Inc. which is a company that sells food additives, including carrageenan. I also this response from Charlotte at the Cornucopia Institute,
“The defense of carrageenan above by Debbie is a verbatim response by Dr. Harris Bixler, who is a director of Marinalg International, the trade lobby group for the corporations that manufacture carrageenan. Scientists have used food-grade carrageenan in the diet of laboratory animals and found adverse effects on the gastrointestinal system. More recent studies, funded by the National Institutes of Health, have identified the biological mechanisms by which food-grade carrageenan causes gastrointestinal inflammation, a precursor to more serious diseases. More information about carrageenan and its harmful effects on the gastrointestinal system is available on The Cornucopia Institute website. ... "

I don't want to be guilty of an ad hominem attack but I wonder if Debbie represents someone with a vested interest in Carrageenan? It is a long and detailed response to a very short excerpt from an article. Surprising that!

When I get a long email attempting to debunk something, it raises a flag. There are legions of paid corporate and government shills around. My apologies if this in not the case here.

I have no opinion on the competing claims, and the underlying science, other than to note that vested interest and money skew both scientific research and various regulatory processes. Is this the case here? Or, maybe the original author is spouting nonsense.

In general, I am sure that a great deal of what I link to contains nonsense. This is just a general statement about how much nonsense abounds in the mainstream media, alternative media, scientific journals, and any other source you care to name.

Given the history of scientific fraud and corporate malfeasance, I tend not to accept industry or regulatory claims at face value.
