Ontario Loves the Environment

The GEA received royal assent in March of 2009 and will allow Ontario to become the leader of renewable energy in North America. The agreement:

* Creates a feed-in Tariff that guarantees specific rates for energy generated from renewable sources.

* Establishes the right to connect to the electricity grid for renewable energy projects that meet technical, economic and other regulatory requirements.

* Establishes a one stop streamlined approvals process, providing service guarantees for renewable energy projects that meet regulatory requirements.

* Implementing a 21st century “smart” power grid to support the development of new renewable energy projects, and prepare Ontario for new technologies like electric car.

Other goals include improving energy efficient appliances, buildings, and improving funding for small scale renewable energy projects. You can read more at the Ontario Ministry of Energy.
